Lease or buy as a business: what should you compare?

Compare total costs, ownership, duration and conditions before leasing or buying a business installation. The right choice depends on your business.

Lease or buy as a business: what should you compare?

Purchase and rental do not solve the same problem.

With a purchase you pay for the installation according to the quote and become the owner under the contract. Business rental spreads the cost, but ownership, term, insurance and end-of-contract arrangements remain important contractual points.

Compare the same installation side by side.

Always compare the same equipment, installation and options. Then review the total price, monthly rental excluding VAT, full term, total cost and end conditions. A monthly amount alone does not make one route cheaper than another.

Savings and tax outcomes are not guarantees.

Consumption, energy tariffs, use of the installation and tax position differ for every business. Wattra therefore does not promise that energy savings will cover the rental cost or that rental is more tax-efficient. Discuss the accounting treatment with your own adviser.

Use one decision sheet for your business.

For both routes, record the same investment value excluding VAT and the same equipment, installation and options. Add the purchase payment, all rental instalments, any insurance, ownership during the term and the end arrangement. List any estimated saving separately. This lets you assess liquidity and total contractual cost without confusing a low monthly amount with a lower total price. The personal quotation and rental contract remain decisive. Ask your accountant to assess the treatment before you decide.
