EV charger not charging: a fault or a setting?

In brief

An EV charger that does not charge is not automatically faulty. The charging session may, for example, be waiting for authorisation, a schedule or available power. The exact operation varies by charging point, vehicle and management system. Note the message and what happens when you try to charge as usual. Have that information assessed before ordering a new unit or changing protection settings.

Looking for an overview? An installation fault: what should you report?

Describe what is not working

Does the charging session fail to start, stop part-way through or run at lower power than expected? These are different issues. State the make and model of the charging point, your vehicle and the exact error message. Note whether the problem always occurs or only at certain times. Share a screenshot of the normal user display, not passwords or access codes.

The app or charging card may help identify who can assist

A rejected charging card, an offline status and a technical fault are not the same. Mention any recent changes to an account, network connection, charging platform or setting. For a shared installation, the manager may have useful information. Indicate whether other charging points are affected too. Wattra will discuss what support is possible and which questions may need to go to the platform or vehicle provider.

There is no universal reset for every charging point

An internet video about another model does not provide a safe diagnosis for your installation. Do not open the charging point or distribution board, or change protection settings. Do not use damaged charging equipment. Only take photos from a safe place. In case of smoke, fire or immediate danger, keep your distance, get to safety and call 112; do not wait for a response through the form.

From reporting a fault to a tailored proposal

Wattra handles service enquiries for home, business and apartment-building charging points across Flanders. Send the location, equipment details and a description of the problem, even if another installer fitted the charging point. We first confirm whether support is possible and agree the diagnostic work and travel arrangements. After investigation, we discuss repair or another appropriate next step. Warranty, parts and any platform costs are assessed separately.

Why does my car sometimes charge more slowly without an error message?

Lower charging power may be caused by the car, a charging schedule or power sharing with other electrical loads. For example, Easee explains that available power is shared between charging points and a car may need to wait. This is not automatically a fault. Note when it happens, which other appliances are running and what the car and charging app show. Have unexpected recurring behaviour assessed without changing protective devices or installer settings yourself.

This is general information about electrical faults, not a diagnosis of your installation. The cause, repair options and costs require a separate assessment.
