Failed electrical inspection: repairs and reinspection

In brief

If your electricity is rejected, have the full report linked to concrete remedial work. Collect your schematics and information about subsequent changes. The installer performs the agreed modifications; a recognized inspection body assesses the installation at the reinspection. Wattra can include the works and organisation of that reinspection in one clear proposal, also for an installation of another performer.

Approval before commissioning: do not start

In the case of non-compliances during conformity inspection prior to commissioning, the installation or part concerned shall not be put into service. First, the non-compliances must disappear and a new check will follow. A recovery period from a different kind of report does not allow us to start here anyway.

Sales control of an old home installation: 18 months

In the event of an unfavourable sales check of an old domestic installation prior to 1 October 1981, the buyer must correct the non-compliances and have a new verification visit carried out within 18 months from the authentic instrument. For this purpose, an approved organism may be used at its choice. This specific sales regime shall not apply to any rejected report.

Regular domestic visit: immediate follow-up, at the latest one year

Non-compliances must be remedied without delay. If the installation remains in service, measures are needed to avoid danger. After an unfavourable regular domestic visit, an additional visit by the same approved organism shall take place within one year at the latest. That's not a year's delay for the repair. Please confirm the applicable follow-up with another type of check.

What works are needed to make the electricity conform?

This follows from the findings and the situation on the ground. Let each comment explain which part is modified, what documentation is needed and what needs to be examined further. A missing schedule requires a different approach than a technical lack of a circle or the earthing. A disapproval does not automatically mean that everything needs to be renewed. The extent becomes clear only when related comments and any additional findings have been considered.

What should be in the quote for recovery and reinspection?

Ask what comments cover the works and distinguish between research, materials, labour, schedule performances and the verification visit. Accessibility, the condition of pipes and adjustments to the cabinet affect the cost. Arrange how unexpected defects and additional work are reported before they are performed. Wattra can organize the reinspection, but only the recognized inspection body performs the official assessment. A repair offer or update plan is not an approval guarantee.

This is how you ask for targeted help for your report

Send every page of your report, any available diagrams, your municipality and the type of building. State what has changed since the inspection and include the follow-up requirements or deadlines in the report; a general article does not determine these for your installation. Do not open enclosures yourself or take measurements to complete your enquiry. Wattra discusses work for homes, businesses and associations of co-owners (VMEs) across Flanders. A website enquiry is not an emergency alert: in case of smoke, fire or immediate danger, get to safety and call 112.
