How to choose a home battery

Start with your consumption, not the largest capacity.

Dyness batteries combined with a Solis inverter

In brief

An annual consumption tells how much energy you use, but not when. For storage, your consumption moments and possible own production are important. With quarter-hourly data, that distribution becomes more visible.

kWh is not the same as kW

Capacity in kWh says something about the amount of energy a battery can store. Power in kW is about the speed at which it can load or discharge. A proposal must match both of them to your usage.

Check the total system

Ask which battery model, which inverter, which control and what installation costs are in the quote. Please also explain whether backup power is included or requires additional parts.

Make a list of your expectations first

Do you especially want to use energy from during the day later, spread your decline better or let certain devices work on a power interruption? Write down your main goal. Then ask which parts are needed. For example, a larger battery does not automatically solve a low inverter power rating. backup power is a separate design issue; a battery in-house does not automatically mean that all electrical sockets continue to work.

So you compare two proposals.

Don't just put the total prices next to each other. Note usable capacity, charge and discharge power, exact model, possible control and the included work. Compare maintenance, conditions, possible subscriptions and the explanation by handover. In the case of a return estimate, ask which electricity prices and consumption data have been used. A favorable example of another home is not a prophecy for your family.

What are you taking to Wattra?

Tell us your connection type, the available installation space and the brand and model of any existing inverter. A photo of an accessible rating plate may help; do not open an electrical enclosure to take it. Add your annual consumption and, if available, fifteen-minute consumption data. We then discuss a suitable capacity and check the technical combination before providing a final quote.
