Sigenergy SigenStor: what does backup power need?

Backup power with SigenStor needs more than a battery. Consider the Gateway, selected circuits and reserve before deciding.

The short answer

A SigenStor battery does not automatically mean your home keeps working during a power cut. A backup installation needs a suitable Gateway, a designed connection and clear agreement on which circuits are supplied. The available battery reserve matters too.

In this article

What do you want to keep using during a power cut?

Make a short priority list: for example the fridge, lighting and internet, or larger appliances too. This is more useful than simply asking for “the whole house”. The Home Gateway manual distinguishes whole-home and partial backup layouts. What is technically and practically suitable is assessed for your home. Discuss essential equipment with special continuity requirements separately; an ordinary home battery is not automatically a replacement for a dedicated backup system.

Storage capacity is not a guaranteed backup duration

Remaining charge and simultaneous consumption help determine how long you can continue. Discuss how much battery reserve you want to keep and what this means for everyday use. Also ask what happens when the battery is empty. A promise that every home remains independent for a fixed number of hours, without consumption data and conditions, is not a useful basis for your decision.

What should your SigenStor proposal include?

Ask for the controller, battery modules, Gateway and any distribution-board modifications to be listed separately. Request a clear explanation of backup circuits and controls at handover. Mention future expansion or a charging point in advance. Wattra assesses your project in Flanders against your current installation and expectations, without presenting backup power as a standard included feature.

What you can prepare now

  • A list of the appliances you want to keep using.
  • Photograph of your distribution board and grid-connection details.
  • Your priorities for daily storage, reserve and future expansion.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Gateway automatically included?

It must be explicitly listed in the quotation. Ask which components and works are included for the agreed backup function.

Can I keep running indefinitely on backup power?

No. Available energy, connected appliances and system limits remain decisive. Have your intended use assessed rather than assuming a fixed autonomy.
