Background
Policy file checked on 19 September 2026: it is a preliminary policy, not a closing message for your home. The original file data is listed below.

Which step is officially to be found?
On 17 July 2026, the Flemish Government approved in principle a preliminary draft with a framework for deployment plans of the natural gas distribution network. The SERV mentions an advisory question dated 22 July. That last date is within our investigation period; the original government step is older.
That sounds administrative, but it prevents an important misunderstanding. A policy proposal for network planning is not the same document as a concrete notification for your address. So always read what is decided, proposed or submitted for opinion.

Do not remove a personal deadline from a general plan
The preliminary draft identifies alternative energy supply and protection of vulnerable customers as concerns. There is no closing date for your street or home from the summary consulted.
If there is information about your neighborhood later, check the sender, the area concerned, the status and the practical follow-up step. Save the original document. Ask the competent authority for clarification when something is unclear. A forwarded message without a source is not a good basis for a substantial order or cancellation of a contract.

Whoever has a working installation can explore options
A useful first step is to write out your future need. Is the apartment gonna keep the same layout? Is there gonna be insulation? Do you want to keep radiators? Where is room for technical parts? Also write down what hasn't been decided.
In this way, a research will have a concrete goal: to understand what solutions are possible and what preparation can be taken into account in later works. That's different than ordering every part of it today. Let the proposal indicate which choices are reversible and where a decision will have further consequences.
In case of a defect, questions are also valid for today.
Anyone without heating has a practical question about diagnosis and follow-up next to a vision of the future. Ask first what is technically going on, which safe solution is feasible and what the planning can be. Do not use an unconfirmed policy deadline to skip a necessary assessment.
Example: a repair can be examined while you have the following heating solution examined separately. Or replacement appears to be the preferred route. Without an assessment of the equipment, a general notice about the gas network does not establish which of those two situations applies to you.
Don't forget the other functions when switching over
A heating plan is only complete when it is clear how the house gets warm and how hot water is made. Also see which other devices may use gas. Therefore, do not allow the end of gas use to coincide automatically with the placement of one new appliance.
Make a list of interested parties and decisions: installation, electricity, possible common areas and administrative follow-up with supplier or distribution system operator. Let each party confirm which part it takes in. This article does not allow you to adjust a connection or gas line yourself.
Ask for options, not a predicted end date
Send Wattra your municipality, installation data and planned homework. Please indicate whether you are orienting, examining a defect or already having a concrete renovation date. Ask what technical information is needed to compare alternatives meaningfully.
Wattra coordinates climate work that is subject to recognition through regular recognised contractors in Flanders. We can help define your technical project, but we can't determine the government policy or the future of your grid connection. A useful next step is a well-founded housing plan, without a fabricated general closing date.
What you can prepare now
- Check if a message is proposal, decision or letter of address.
- Save source and original date.
- Inventory heating, hot water and other gas appliances.
- Have property options examined before ordering parts.
Frequently asked questions
Does my existing gas boiler have to go now?
You can't decide that from the question of advice. Have the applicable rules and your concrete installation evaluated; this article does not set a general replacement deadline.
Where do I check the follow-up of the file?
Use the official file page pavilions at the bottom of this article. Check that a new publication is an opinion, draft or final decision, and that there is information for your address.
