Think about charging before the delivery email arrives
You choose an electric car with comfort, space and range. The loading solution at home is sometimes only discussed when the delivery approaches. Then it turns out that the distribution board is not next to the parking lot or that the proposed place is awkward when you park backwards.
Therefore, make the preparation concrete as soon as you know the model. You don't need all the technical answers yet. A few photos, your usual weekly rhythm and a clear idea of the parking lot are sufficient to ask the right questions. A charging point is something that you want to use regularly without thinking.
View the parking space from your daily movement
Park as you normally would and see where the charging connection of the future vehicle is. Can you hook up without putting the cable down a passageway? Will the garage gate remain usable? Where do you put the cable when you're not charging?
Flanders recommends aligning the position to the parking mode and the charging power of the vehicle. Use these principles to discuss a convenient place, not to create a technical design. A wall mounting and freestanding arrangement have other practical consequences for route, protection and finishing.
Let the existing connection be an open question
Don't you know if your connection is single-phase, 3×230 V or 3×400 V + N? Just say that. Make photos of accessible inscriptions on meters and closed electrical enclosure and have the connection fixed. The correct answer is more important than trying to guess the technical box in advance.
Also deliver the exact vehicle model and any documentation from the dealer. Specify an existing battery, solar panels and plans for other large electric consumers. Ask only after that assessment whether an adjustment of the connection is necessary. The highest loading speed in a brochure is not proof that you need it at home.
Make your charging wish recognizable instead of technical
Tell me when you usually come home, when you leave and if you often drive away unexpectedly again. Do you load up at work? Is this your only car or is there a second one later? These answers help assess a loading solution for usability.
The Flemish Nut regulator points out the usefulness of loading spreading and taking other consumers into account. Ask how that works in your ministry. One example: on normal working days the loading can be done quietly, but before a long ride you simply want to be able to deviate. Let both situations be included in the explanation.
A company car brings extra appointments
If your employer's car, ask in advance which registration, management environment and evidence required. Also confirm who will own the charging point and what happens when you move or change your employer. Not every charging point or subscription automatically connects to the same employer procedure.
Please note recurring costs and failures responsibilities separately. This article does not set a tax refund rate and does not replace agreements with your employer. By collecting that information early, you prevent a technically good device from fitting with the administration required for your company car afterwards.
Ask for a proposal up to commissioning
Flanders states that a home charging point must be inspected after installation and that an installer can arrange this inspection. Ask who arranges the inspection, which documents you receive and how you will learn to use the controls. Wattra arranges the inspection by an authorised inspector; we do not carry out the official inspection ourselves.
For your enquiry, send the installation address, vehicle model, expected delivery period and photos of the parking space and electrical enclosure. List any breaking or digging that you already plan. We're discussing loading installations all over Flanders. So you get a proposal for your real situation, with the open points named before the car is at the door.
What you can prepare now
- Write down exact vehicle model and expected delivery.
- Photograph parking space, cable route and closed electrical enclosure.
- Describe departure hours and any second car.
- Request employer conditions and delivery arrangements.
Frequently asked questions
Should I request a heavier connection first?
Not automatically. Let first assess vehicle, connection, other consumers and desired loading planning. Only then can you determine whether an adjustment is necessary or meaningful.
Can I ask for a quote before the car is delivered?
Yes. With the exact model, the planned parking space and information about your home you can start the preparation. Please indicate which delivery date is provisional.
